New Balance gives fans the chance to #BeProteas

This summer, New Balance, along with Cricket South Africa, will be putting Proteas supporters at the forefront of the 2017/18 Proteas ODI shirt launch.  The official technical supplier to the Proteas will be giving fans the chance to be the first to receive and experience the new kit through an exciting competition recognising and rewarding ultimate Proteas supporters.

Craig Bowen, Country Manager of New Balance South Africa said, “We are immensely excited to release the new Proteas ODI jersey ahead of a big international season.  In so doing we want to recognise the off-field heroes who enable the Proteas to be our on-field heroes – the fans.  As such, we will be rewarding Proteas supporters who give their all to cheer on the number one ODI team in the world.  Our hope is that the new kit will spur fans on ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and encourage them to give 100% for the team.”

From 8 May, New Balance will be acknowledging eleven passionate Proteas enthusiasts.   Fans will be given the chance to prove why they are worthy of receiving the shirt before anyone else by uploading a note, letter, video or photo onto beproteas.co.za.  In order to win a new Proteas ODI shirt (hand-delivered prior to its release), fans will need to showcase what makes them an ultimate Proteas fan - the pride that wearing the Proteas jersey instils in them, what the badge means to them and what they feel when watching the team in action.*

The new jersey has the Men’s and Women’s Proteas captains excited.

Proteas Test and T20 Captain Faf du Plessis said: “Bringing in a new season with a new and innovative kit adds an extra element of excitement to the challenge. We have a busy international schedule this season, and this new kit is another platform for the fans to get behind the team as we look to raise the bar in our performances.”

Proteas ODI Captain AB de Villiers said: “South Africa has some of the most loyal and passionate fans in the world and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is the Proteas’ token of thanks for the support and praise. We play for the fans and we want to make them proud. We hope to see everyone at the stadiums in their green and gold supporting the Proteas in what is set to be a challenging but exciting season.”

Proteas women’s captain Dane van Niekerk said: “It’s an exciting time for South African cricket with the ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC Women’s World Cup coming up in England. We as players love getting new kit and seeing the fans looking just like us in their replicas.  This is especially true in this extra-special season with so much to play for, for both the men’s and women’s teams. We can always count on New Balance for their cool and innovative ideas and urge fans to show their support.”
