COCA-COLA SCHOOLS T20 CHALLENGE HERO OF THE DAY (DAY 1)

Aiden van Wyk from Selborne College has been named the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day for day 1 of the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge.

The prestigious Coca-Cola Hero of the Day award is presented on each day of the tournament in recognition of a game changing ‘hero’ moment. Aiden was selected for the award by a Coca-Cola appointed panel of cricket experts after taking 6/13 in his match against Prestige College.

“I am happy that I helped my team win the game. It is a team effort and each individual performance is combined to help the team reach their goal to win the match,” said Aiden after he received his reward.

“Taking 6 wickets in a T20 match is an unbelievable effort that does not happen every day. Aiden is only 15 years old, hopefully we will see some more stellar performances from him in the near future,” said Coca-Cola Hero of the Day lead judge Robin Peterson.

Aiden is now in line for the accolade of Coca-Cola Hero of the Tournament which will be announced on the 26th March 2017.

Fetsi Mbele, Coca-Cola Southern & East Africa’s Senior Communications Manager: Brand Experience commented, “The Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge is Where Heroes Are Made.  For Aiden this is hopefully just the beginning of a future in the game.  On behalf of Coca-Cola I extend my congratulations, I can’t wait to follow his career going forward as he works towards becoming a hero of South African cricket.

ROBIN PETERSON CALLED UP TO SCOUT HEROES AT COCA-COLA® SCHOOLS T20 CHALLENGE

ROBIN PETERSON CALLED UP TO SCOUT HEROES AT
COCA-COLA® SCHOOLS T20 CHALLENGE

Proteas legend and cricket pundit, Robin Peterson, has been announced as the face of the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day, a daily award that will recognize and reward players at the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge. His appointment comes after he successfully led the Hero of the Day panel at the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week last year, selecting and rewarding two future Coca-Cola SA U19 players in the process. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Stellenbosch from 24-26 March 2017.

Peterson said, “I would like to thank Coca-Cola for trusting me with the responsibility of once again leading the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day judging panel. I’m incredibly proud to be associated with the Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge. I believe that the tournament is a great platform for young cricketers to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience. I can’t wait to see what talent we will uncover at the tournament.”

The Coca-Coca Schools T20 Challenge is fast becoming synonymous as a platform for showcasing some of the best, up and coming youth cricket talent in South Africa.  Proteas superstars Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock and Andile Phehlukwayo have all made their mark at the tournament - evidence that the three-day event is developing into one of the key tournaments in South Africa’s cricket development structures.

Peterson, Cricket South Africa’s newly appointed U19 Technical Consultant, together with a panel of cricket experts, will be tasked with selecting and rewarding the prestigious Coca-Cola Hero of the Day recipients at this year’s Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge. The Coca-Cola Hero of the Day is not necessarily the best player on the field.  He is the wicketkeeper who made an amazing dive catch, a tail-ender who smashed a reverse sweep for six to win the match or even the player showing sportsmanship and embodying the spirit of the gentleman’s game.

Fetsi Mbele, Senior Communications Manager: Brand Experience, Coca-Cola Southern & East Africa said, “Bringing Robin Peterson back on board to lead the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day panel was a no-brainer for us. He did a stellar job at the Coca-Coca Khaya Majola Cricket week, selecting five quality Heroes, two of which have gone on to play for the Coca-Cola SA U19 team. The prestige of the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day award is growing with every tournament. It is becoming an award every young cricketer wants to win. We are thus immensely proud to be able to give the future stars of South African cricket the recognition they deserve through our sponsorship of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week and Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge.”

The 2017 Coca-Cola Schools T20 Challenge National Finals will take place at the University of Stellenbosch Cricket Oval from 24-26 March.
