The Coca-Cola Khaya Majola
Cricket Week got off to an unusual start in Potchefstroom last night.
Instead of the young under-19’s getting on the cricket field, the captain,
manager and one other player of the16 provincial teams had a ‘braai-off’ under
the watchful eye of Justin Bonellos, the celebrity chef and host of the popular
SABC television series, The Ultimate Braai Master.
Western Province emerged as the
2012 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week's braai masters, their prize was a
braai hamper for each cook which included Justin Bonello’s Cook Book.
There was a tie for second place between hosts, North West and Eastern
Province.
How the braai competition ran was
that each team was given 45 minutes to prepare a meat dish with a starch and a
side dish. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Joining Justin as
judges included Craig van Niekerk, Coca-Cola Marketing Assets Manager and
Heinrich Strydom, Action CEO of North West Cricket. The teams were judged on preparation,
creativity, flavor and presentation.
Today the cricketers are back in
their comfort zone, which is showing their class on the cricket and the 2012
Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week has officially started.
“Coca-Cola are one of the
sponsors of The Ultimate Braai Master and by incorporating a South African
favourite pastime into the itinerary we are giving the cricketers a
perfect opportunity to relax, meet other players and build team spirit ahead of
the serious action,” said van Niekerk.
“At Coca-Cola we recognise that the future
will be shaped by today’s youth and on the cricket field over the next five
days we are providing the opportunity for the youth to showcase their full
potential,” ended van Niekerk.
