As part of the KFC Mini-Cricket campaign to get
children from across South Africa living active and balanced lifestyles, AB de
Villiers had an exclusive KFC Mini-Cricket coaching session with youngsters from
Arcon Park Primary School, Vereeniging today.
From the thousands of competition entries that came
in, Tibo Kiefer, from North West University won the prize. Being out of school,
he nominated Arcon Park Primary School from Vereeniging to take advantage of
this once in a life time opportunity.
“This is our third year of involvement in KFC mini-cricket
and events like today reflect how much kids enjoy playing cricket and getting
active. We are proud to be able to bring one of the most respected players in
world cricket to give a hands-on coaching session to these boys,” says Lauren Turnbull,
CSI and Sponsorship manager at KFC South Africa.
The 2011/12
season saw the programme grow to 100 000 kids. This season, KFC Mini-Cricket festivals started in September and will
run until March where children from 16 provinces will be playing KFC
Mini-Cricket. The provincial cricket unions have also committed to having some of
their senior players at the festivals to give some invaluable hands-on tips for
the children.
As part of the “Get into Action. Get into KFC
Mini-Cricket” campaign, KFC has introduced a KFC Mini-Cricket ambassador search
where an audition area will be set up at each festival to select the
ambassadors. Those selected will be used to promote the KFC Mini-Cricket programme
and encourage kids to get active and get into KFC Mini-Cricket.
AB has been an ambassador of KFC Mini-Cricket since 2010: “Cricket is such a wonderful way to get
children outside and active. And it is one of those sports you can play
virtually anywhere. From the backyard to the beaches, the children will find a
way to play the game,” said AB de Villiers, captain of the Proteas.
