KwaZulu-Natal will host the sixth Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup Provincial final this Friday and Saturday, 17-18 June, at Arbor Park stadium in Newcastle, kick-off at 9.00am on both days. The winning school will get R100 000 which will be used to fund legacy projects identified by the school. Schools that finish in the first and second place both go on to compete in the National Finals.
Traditionally, KwaZulu-Natal has been known to produce many professional footballers and Sundowns talent scouts will be at the tournament looking for players to boost the Clubs development teams with the aim of bringing them into the first team.
Participating teams:
Folweni High School (Umlazi Region), Sphapheme High School (Ugu Region), Masakhane High School (Empangeni Region), Cabangangokuhle High School (Umzinyathi Region), Sibumbene High School (Vryheid Region), Thubelihle High School (Amajuba Region), Embizeni High School (Uthukela Region), Umohele High School (Pinetown Region), Mdungandlovu High School (Ubombo Region), Langalakhe High School (Umgungundlovu Region), Pholela High School (Sisonke Region) and Velangezwi High School (ILembe Region).
About the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup:
The Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup is an initiative co-funded by Sanlam, the Ubuntu-Botho Community Development Trust and the Motsepe Family Foundation. It the biggest high school soccer tournament in South Africa and is open to all high schools including rural, public, private and independent schools. The National winning school will walk away with R1 million with R600 000, R500 000 and R400 000, for the second, third and fourth placed schools respectively. Each Provincial winners gets an additional R100 000. Prize money is used to fund legacy projects identified by the school.
